Psychology

Are you curious about why people behave the way they do? Are you intrigued by relationships between brain activity and behavior? Do you enjoy science and mathematics? Would you like to learn how to diagnose and treat psychological disorders and mental illnesses? Are you interested in knowing about the dynamic interaction of genetic, hormonal, and experiential influences on the mind and behavior? Would you like to help discover the best ways for people to achieve balance in their lives as they work, play, and love? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, psychology may be the career for you.

Psychology is the natural science of behavior and mental activity.  A career in psychology encourages curiosity, creativity, and an emphasis on using scientific strategies to discover and confirm the causes and developmental patterns of behavior.

Psychologists work in a variety of settings. Many conduct basic research either in the laboratory or in the field, using experimental methods to discover the causes of specific patterns of behavior. Some psychologists work in applied settings, in hospitals, clinics, and other organizations, where they apply evidence-based strategies to help people achieve more satisfying and safer lives. Many psychologists also teach in colleges and universities. Most psychologists combine teaching with research or consultation.
